The Classic BMW Engine Builder.

What began in 2011 with a single rebuilt M20 cylinder head listed for sale on the R3VLimited E30 forums has grown into something we're deeply proud of — a shop you can count on. Fifteen years later, we're still here doing what we love. We wouldn't be here without all of the customers and members of the Classic BMW community who've supported us along the way.

In those early days, BimmerHeads was a part-time venture based in a home garage. From there, we moved into a hangar at a local airport, where the business evolved into a full-time operation. In 2018, we opened a full-service shop in Santa Clarita, California, expanding into the vehicle side of things. We’re proud of the work we did there, and the lessons we’ve learned over the years have helped shape how we run the shop today.

At the beginning of 2026, we moved to our permanent home in Grover Beach on California’s Central Coast. Trading the bustle of the Los Angeles area for life in a smaller coastal town has been a welcome change, both in the shop and outside of it. It’s turned out to be one of our best decisions yet.

Who We Are

Shant is the machinist, engine builder, and mastermind behind the builds at BimmerHeads. He’s patient and methodical, taking the time to make sure no detail goes unnoticed. He got into BMWs around 2007, when he became friends with Matt, who worked at a neighborhood repair shop. Through his connection to that shop, Shant also met his mentor, a renowned machinist and engine builder whose career spanned more than 50 years. The skills he learned from his mentor remain a foundation of his work today. His first BMW was a 1990 E30 325iS, and he’s owned at least 25 Classic BMWs since then.

Matt is the person you’ll usually hear from when you call, text, or email BimmerHeads. He’s spent nearly 25 years learning about Classic BMWs and their parts. He knows which brands and suppliers to choose, what works, and what doesn’t. He keeps the web store running and handles parts orders, estimates, invoices, and plenty in between. He got into BMWs in 2003 through a high school friend with a 1987 325iS. His professional BMW career began in 2007 at the repair shop where he and Shant met. His first BMW was a 1986 E30 325e, and he’s owned at least 30 Classic BMWs since then.

What We Do

BimmerHeads is a full-service engine builder, engine machine shop, and parts house specializing in Classic BMW vehicles. We rebuild engines and cylinder heads, handle the machine work behind them, and sell and ship parts, rebuilt heads, and complete engines to enthusiasts around the world. Whether you're restoring a 2002tii and planning a mild M10 build or looking to put together a wild S54 engine that's built for high boost, we know what it takes to get each build right.

We also take on select in-shop vehicle work by request — one car at a time, by appointment, with the same level of attention and intimate care we give every engine we build. Customers bring their builds to us from all over the country.
